Description

Long woven silk-woollen shawl. The pattern fills the whole shawl in curving panels that meet in the centre. A guard-stripe width border (4.25 inches) round the whole shawl makes no attempt to turn corners and runs straight down the sides and, within that, across the bottom. Outer end panels (2.25 inches deep) are elaborately decorated with arches. There is a crimped harlequined fringe. Colours of woollen weft in red, blue, green, pink, mustard yellow, brown and white. There is a dark green warp-faced wool selvedge. Long woven silk-woollen shawl, Paisley, ca. 1855-1860
