Description

Entari (robe, am al-kasa) made from white silk with a brocaded pattern of narrow alternating rows of gilt pine pattern motifs with green foliage. The entari is full length, fitted to the figure with a low cut neck and long sleeves widening towards the cuff where they are slit. The skirt is slightly gathered at the centre back. There are rows of gilt braid around the neck, cuffs, armholes and front opening, and the neck and cuffs are edges with red and gold looped braid. Plaited gilt braid covers the seams on the centre back. The cuffs are trimmed with large diamond-shaped wound gilt buttons and the garment fastens its full length with small self-covered buttons. The bodice (zik) is lined with white cotton and the fronts are faced with red silk. Entari (robe) made from brocaded silk, Iraq, ca. 1870
