Description

Dress fabric of broceded silk, lined with block-printed cotton, France, 1775-1780 Dress fabric of brocaded green silk with leaves and stems to groups of flowers growing from a tree-trunk which springs from a bizarre form. The pattern is brocaded in yellow, white, pink and green silk bound in 3/1 twill. Width of the silk between the selvedges is 21.5 inches. Lined with French block-printed cotton of ca. 1775 in two shades of madder purple and pink, with added blue on a white ground. There are three not quite parallel thin meandering stems of flowers in the width of the cotton at 29.5 inches.
