Description

Man’s court coat and waistcoat of brown, green and purple uncut and voided velvet and lined with cream silk sarsenet. The coat has a 3-inch (7.5 cm) standing collar, narrow 2-piece curving sleeves ending in 3½-inch (9 cm) cuffs. The fronts curve away from the chest, ending in narrow pleats at the centre back. The coat is embroidered with white, blue and shades of green and pink silk floss and silver spangles in a floral pattern on the collar, cuffs, pocket flaps, around the pockets and along the front edges and centre-back opening. There are 8 embroidered buttons on the right front with 3 worked and cut buttonholes on the left. The waistcoat fronts are made of the same velvet, sarsenet lining and embroidered in the same threads and design as the coat. It has a 1¾-inch (4.4 cm) standing collar. There are fifteen embroidered buttons along the right front with 15 worked and cut buttonholes on the left front. The back has been replaced with coarse linen.
