Description

Man's waistcoat, theatre costume, British, 1870-1910, made of a Spitalfields silk, 1775-1785 Man's theatrical waistcoat made of a Spitalfields silk of figured ivory silk taffeta with satin-weave stripes, brocaded with green and pink silk in a pattern of repeating floral motifs. The waistcoat back and linings are late 19th/early 20th century cotton fabrics. It is hand-sewn with a high shawl collar, 5 worked buttonholes and 5 self-covered buttons.
