Description

The small tripod stand in the antique manner is a typical example of the highly developed stone cutting and polishing practiced at the Imperial Lapidary Factory in Ekaterinburg in the Ural Mountains of Russia. The juxtaposition of two semi-precious stones of such divergent colors is particularly daring. Two larger vases of this model survive at The Hermitage Museum, and the design drawing for the form, dated 1852 and signed “Galberg,” are in the Russian state Archives of the Academy of Arts.
