Description

Intended for use as a mat for placing a huqqa pipe on. Textile, huqqa mat or tray cover, silk, flattened gold wire, applied gold-wrapped thread, Madras, ca. 1855 Circular mat for a huqqa pipe, or tray cover, the ground is made of flattened gold wire, over which are appliquéd a central field with floral designs in gold-wrapped thread, sequins and red and green spangles, and pearls, surrounded by a band of flowers made up of red and green spangles on a fringe of flattened gold wire. Backed with crimson silk.
