Description

Three wide stripes separated and edged by narrow stripes. The grounds of the main bands were originally yellowish white silk, but most of the white silk has worn off leaving the red silk warp and weft exposed. The design consists of red and yellow lines forming diamonds with hexagons in them and what suggests a Cufic inscription. The letters? of the inscription almost meeting in the middle divide the bands into squares. The design of the narrow outer bands consists of diamonds separated by groups of vertical lines. This piece was woven into a red silk gauze. It has been pasted by the dealer into a piece of linen.
