Description

Apron of hand-sewn silk gauze, England, ca. 1760 Apron of hand-sewn cream silk gauze. With an all over pattern of floral trails on a diamond pattern ground. The border motif is similar with the addition of diaper bands and a scalloped edge. This silk gauze apron is decorative rather than practical, worn by the lady of the house to signify her expertise at domestic management. It is woven in diaper pattern with floral motifs.
