Description

Woven silk and metal thread and cotton, plain weave ground and binding Warp: red silk Weft: red and blue silk Metal thread: silver strip open S-wound on yellow silk core. Five pieces sewn together. Blue ground with a lobed lattice worked in metal thread with red silk spots. The compartments contain one of two variations of the same arrangement: a star-like rosette in metal thread with a red silk centre surrounded by either a circle or a square, also in metal and red silk. Radiating from this are stylised leaves and flowers. At the upper edge of two pieces there is a band of blue weft, probably marking the end of a loom piece. One selvedge: two white cotton cords.
