Description

Man's sleeved waistcoat, 1700-1710, French/English; Brocaded blue, white and brown silk taffeta Man’s sleeved waistcoat made of blue silk taffeta brocaded with brown and white in a dense pattern of leaves. It has a round neckline bound with silk, straight fronts, curved 2-piece sleeves and skirts reaching to the knee. Each front has a pocket and rectangular pocket flap. The waistcoat and sleeves are lined with unbleached fustian, the skirts, pockets, pocket flaps and cuffs with light blue figured silk taffeta. There are 36 buttonholes edged with gold-coloured silk woven lace (braid) along the left front and 5 on each cuff. There are 36 buttons covered with silk thread on the right front and 5 on each cuff.
