Description

Textile of brocaded silk. White corded ground with a floating design of delicate flower and leaf stems, curving vertically, scattered leaves between the stems, and banded every 0.375 inch with two gilt metal strips. Sprays of flowers and berries arranged in horizontal rows growing from the vertical stems, sprays of roses and small flowers brocaded in brightly coloured silks and between these rows are sprays of larger flowers and berries brocaded in gilt metal strip, gilt metal thread and silk. Two repeats in the width and one and a quarter turn-over repeats in the length. Textile of brocaded silk with metal thread, Spitalfields, 1760-1770
