Description

Dress fabric of wool and silk, Great Britain, 1845-1860 Dress fabric of figured wool, possibly a border to a skirt or shawl. White silk warp and woollen weft, loosely woven in tabby and with a woollen pattern weft in dark brown-red, dark green, light green, lilac, purple and pink. From a floral meander of the hem, graceful stems extend 18 inches upwards. The pattern wefts are cropped on the back. The pattern is woven to shape at the right edge and cut at the left. The hem is neatly made with a strip of the plain silk and wool material at the back.
