The technique of enamel painting is thought to have been introduced into Lombardy between 1470 and 1480. The style here is close to that of several miniature painters who worked for the Milanese ducal court of the Sforza. The frame is a sixteenth-century addition.

Silk, warp-float faced 4:1 satin weave with weft-float faced 1:3 'Z' twill interlacings of secondary binding warps and supplementary patterning wefts

The design of large leaf forms. Enclosing clusters of fruit, growing from an undulating stem, is woven with deep blue velvet and gold thread (yellow silk wound with silver gilt). A secondary stem bearing fruit, flowers and leaves can be distinguished against the background which is woven with gold. The velvet is powdered with loops of gold thread. The whole piece is very much worn. Edged with modern gimp, and with fringe at the bottom. Lined with blue linen.
