This richly patterned quilt is decorated with a mixture of real and imaginary flowers, with carnations, irises, tulips and lotus pods recognisable by their shape if not their colouring. Small birds inhabit the central medallion, while butterflies are incorporated into the crowded field design. The flowering trees that make up the main design spring from vestigial mounds at the edges of the field.
