Description

Unique Embroidered linen sampler with brown silk in cross-stitch with some back-stitch. Embroidered at the top is the name 'TRIENTIE WIERENGX'. The central motif consists of a two-handled vase containing a large conventionalised group of one large flower, two smaller ones and various buds and leaves. Beneath is a conventionalised tree in a tub with two birds perched and cockerels facing one another on either side. The date '1838' is below this. The other motifs are arranged in pairs symmetrically, one on each side of the central designs. They consist of two vases and flowers and smaller designs such as stars and hearts with crowns above. Embroidered on the field are the initials 'NH', 'IT', and 'HW'. There is a conventional flower and leaf border based on a chevron design with a tree in each corner.
