Description

Suzani (hanging or cover) cotton embroidered with silk in floral patterns and lined with industrially printed cotton, probably Uzbekistan, 19th century; Textiles; Embroidery Cover of embroidered off-white cotton tabby cloth with silk in shades of red, pink, salmon, green, brown, blue, yellow and orange in Bokhara couching, chain, ladder and Cretan feather stitches. Made of five widths. The field is occupied by irregularly undulating floral stems. The border on all four sides shows large flowers within leaf sprays. Lined with machine-printed cotton, with stripes containing pine-forms and columns entwined with flowers in purple, red and green.
