Description

Fragmentary panel. Irregularly shaped piece of a larger rectangular panel. Ground of very fine natural linen cloth, with in-woven tapestry design (tapestry warps lie in horizontal direction). Pattern wefts are of very fine wools of many shades, and natural linen. Sows a pair of columns with guilloche ornament on shafts and conventionlaized acanthus leaves on bases and capitals. A small male figure, in green tunic and red hose, stands beside column at left; with right hand, he pulls back blue and white striped curtain suspended between columns. Above, part of a fruit-ornamented arch connecting the two columns and part of a second arch springing from the column at right. Linen discolored. Brown stains, especially on right side.
