Description
Embroidered coverlets like this are often referred to as Chamba rumals, but were made at several places in the Punjab Hills, or the modern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, one of which may have been Chamba. They are typically decorated with scenes from the life of Krishna, especially the rasamandala, where he dances with all the gopis (cow-herd girls) at once, or his wedding to Rukmini, which is the event shown here. the other gods line up on the right of the coverlet to pay homage to Krishna.
