Description

Tapestry 'Diana before the Assembly of the Gods' woven in wool and silk, designed by Toussaint Dubreuil, possibly woven in the workshop of Raphael de la Planche, Paris, ca. 1620-1630 Tapestry woven in wool and silk. Showing Diana before the Assembly of the Gods. On the left hand side the gods are assembled with Jupiter seated on a throne raised on three steps. A cluster of 'barley sugar' columns form the background. Diana is kneeling before Jupiter on the paved courtyard to the palace of the gods. Behind her can be seen a landscape with a temple on the right and a wooded hill on the left. There are floral borders around the tapestry with trophies and mythological figures. There is a coat of arms in the centre of the top border and a cartouche in the lower border with Diana as huntress.
